Product details
Appropriate responses to the issues of climate change and biodiversity loss require a societal perception of long-term changes in nature and society. The book explores the forms, limits, and consequences of individual and collective perceptions of change, providing a sociologically informed understanding of the (non-)perception of both past and future processes of change. This is initially approached from a theoretical perspective by integrating relevant aspects from memory, generational, and temporal studies. The concept of "Shifting Baselines" serves as a starting point for this discussion. Following this, the book examines the perception of change processes with varying dynamics—ranging from slow, rapid, to drastic (i.e., catastrophic) change—based on insights from qualitative interviews.
