Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common inflammatory degenerative disease of the central nervous system in young adults. The disease is still incurable today. In recent years, a multitude of new therapeutic options has emerged. This white paper aims to present current knowledge about MS and its care in Germany in a factual and comprehensive manner. It includes information on the disease profile, epidemiology, and its health economic relevance. Current developments and treatment recommendations are compared to the actual utilization and the existing capacity of diagnostic and therapeutic options. The relevant stakeholders in the healthcare process and important processes of care design are described. Renowned medical experts and representatives of statutory health insurance are involved.
