"It's the economy, stupid!" This slogan helped Bill Clinton win the U.S. presidential elections. The fundamental importance of the economy for society may be rhetorically exaggerated, but no one disputes it. From Adam Smith to Karl Marx, from Friedrich August von Hayek to John Maynard Keynes, the economy is at the center of political design and theoretical efforts, spanning the left, right, and center. Accordingly, the New Economic Sociology has experienced an unprecedented upswing in recent years. This is largely due to societal structural changes such as the increasing significance of markets, the blurring of labor boundaries, digitalization, and the dramatic financial and economic crises. Against this backdrop, economic sociology examines the foundations of the economy.
