The respective strengths are determined by the load, the geometry of the gearing, and the chosen materials. DIN 3990 presents five methods (A, B, C, D, E) for calculating load capacity. The following explanations focus exclusively on method B, which is particularly suitable for numerical calculations. The basis for the load capacity calculation of spur and helical gears is provided by calculation methods according to DIN 3990. According to this standard, the complete load capacity calculation of a gear pair includes the verification of root strength, flank strength, and scuffing strength. The static nominal tangential force Ft is considered as the load on the gear pair.
