Product details

Wound healing is a natural curative reaction to tissue injury that involves the interaction of a complex flow of cellular events, generating resurfacing, reconstitution, and restoration of the tensile strength of injured tissue. Diabetic patients often experience delayed wound healing due to abnormalities in the progression of normal wound healing phases. Lymphocytes play a central role in wound healing, and their increased apoptosis due to hyperglycemia leads to delayed healing. Prolonged delayed wound healing can result in chronic wounds, which may ultimately lead to amputation. We have shown that oxidative stress plays a major role in the attenuation of lymphocyte apoptosis in diabetic patients. A better understanding of the factors involved in lymphocyte apoptosis may be important for developing new approaches to manage wound healing.
