Ekkehard IV chronicles the history of the Abbey of St. Gallen from around 883 to 972. He composed this work around the middle of the 11th century. His narratives, which are largely based on the oral traditions of the monastic community, are extraordinarily vivid and memorable, providing an excellent insight into monastic life and the general living conditions of the 10th century. This edition features an improved text in the outstanding translation by Hans Haefele.
