In the near future, two out of three people worldwide will live in cities. Urbanization and climate change pose significant challenges to urban areas. Understanding the interactions between climate, air quality, and urban planning is therefore becoming increasingly important. This textbook introduces the physical foundations and processes of urban climate and highlights the fields of work in planning-oriented urban climatology.
