Cognitive interventions and therapeutic techniques play a central role in every psychotherapy, regardless of the disorder. Therefore, it is essential for psychotherapists to master various cognitive interventions and methods. The methods available today, which have been evaluated, can be categorized into thought control techniques, cognitive restructuring, and metacognitive interventions, which can be complemented by mindfulness intervention methods and emotion regulation. The volume first presents the theoretical assumptions of the various cognitive interventions and provides recommendations for diagnostic methods to capture the different cognitive constructs. It then describes the sometimes quite different interventions that arise from the theoretical models.
