State Parliament of Thuringia 1919/20-1933
German, Timo Leimbach, 2016Product details
While the debate known as the "Reichsreform" regarding a reorganization of the states remained without tangible results until the end of the Weimar Republic, seven small states united to form the state of Thuringia on May 1, 1920. In addition to the general post-war crisis, this unique feature as a newly founded state posed an additional challenge to the still young parliamentary system. Thuringia's internal political development subsequently exhibited a remarkable volatility that repeatedly threatened its newly acquired statehood. This study, for the first time and in depth, examines the framework and development history of parliamentarism in a state whose political development during the Weimar Republic appeared even more crisis-ridden at first glance, using both classical historical and cultural studies methods.
