Product details
Whether artistic works or research results – in both science and art, only the outcomes of the creative process are ever visible. What happens behind the closed doors of laboratories and studios remains as invisible as it is mysterious. Berlin-based artist and professor of fine arts Stefanie Bürkle (1966) has now taken on these unknown places of creation and photographed Berlin's laboratories and artists' studios. Her photographic works depict empty spaces of development and thought filled with materials, tools, experimental setups, and equipment, the purpose of which remains hidden from the viewer yet suggests something significant. Stefanie Bürkle's photographs essentially reveal the alchemical kitchens of the present. She explores the analogies of experiment and process in studio and laboratory, making these workshops of knowledge visible.
