On the occasion of his 100th birthday, the photographic oeuvre of Peter Keetman (1916-2005) will be rediscovered in this extensive retrospective. His work occupies a central place in the photographic post-war modernism of Germany. As the title of the exhibition "Gestaltete Welt" suggests, it brings together two central currents of those years. On one side, the modernist will for form, design, experimentation, and abstraction; on the other, a humanistic connection to the world and a focus on reconstruction, the city, nature, down to its elemental building blocks. Characteristic of Keetman's work is the continuous and creative engagement with the possibilities of the camera in search of a vibrant photography. In the late 1940s, he was part of the young avant-garde group fotoform, which, inspired by the experiments of the pre-war avant-gardes, developed a new language of photography based on formal reduction, the creative power of light, and the subjectivity of individual world experience.
