Product details
"Would you rent a room to this woman?" When Klaus Staeck posed this question beneath the portrait of an old woman in 1971, he created his first poster that brought provocative art into the public space. The political Staeck poster quickly became a well-known term, and over the years, more than 300 powerful motifs emerged. His visual creations and accompanying satirical slogans, such as "German workers! The SPD wants to take away your villas in Ticino," shaped the visual and political memory of the Federal Republic from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. Staeck always saw himself as a political provocateur, commenting on socially sensitive topics and crises with his designs, deliberately triggering far-reaching scandals. The exhibition at the Museum Folkwang showcases not only around 180 of his posters.
