Catalonia, the autonomous region in northeastern Spain, is one of the most diverse hiking regions in Europe. Especially the Pyrenees, whose most beautiful peaks and valleys can be explored with this hiking guide, are an attractive destination away from the well-known areas of Europe, reaching heights of up to 3,143 meters. The pre-Pyrenees of the province of Lleida, with their deeply carved gorges and steep cliffs, also offer an ideal hiking destination. Here, one can wander alone over deep ravines and along numerous reservoirs through a dry, rugged, yet stunningly beautiful landscape. The author presents the most interesting corners of her adopted home with her selection of routes and shares some insider tips. Not only classic hikes, such as to the highest peak in Catalonia, the Pica d'Estats, have been chosen, but also routes that are less known in hiking literature.
