The dynamics of aging in modern societies is now receiving significant attention as a demographic phenomenon and a socio-political challenge. Against this backdrop, it is surprising that the spatial aspects of this process have so far only been marginally addressed, even from the perspective of spatial sciences. The focus of this socio- and population-geographic work is therefore primarily on the interactions between individuals and their environments in later adulthood, exploring their complexity, intricacy, and specificity. Given the multidimensionality of the aging process and the early stage of spatially related aging research, many questions arise alongside existing answers. This should serve as a motivation to promote interdisciplinary scientific efforts to explain spatially bound aging processes in the future.
