The medical ethics discussion is at risk of increasingly losing sight of the fundamental anthropological phenomenon of dying under ongoing legal pressure. If dying and death are not to become a projection surface for diffuse fears and anxieties, it is urgently necessary to illuminate the various dimensions of human encounters with their own mortality as objectively as possible. The interdisciplinary structure of this volume not only provides insight into the complexity of the largely repressed topic of dying but also offers a broad overview of the possibilities of contemporary palliative medicine and the ethical reflections underlying it.
