Product details

Everything about the Cornelian cherry. With its golden-yellow flowers and bright red fruits, the Cornelian cherry is one of the most popular wild fruit species. However, little is known about its versatile uses in the kitchen and cellar. The Cornelian cherry is a jack-of-all-trades: thanks to its particularly early flowering, it is one of the most important bee forage plants, and later its fruits provide food for many birds. It is an ornament for any garden and fits well into neatly trimmed hedges. Since the Stone Age, it has served human nutrition and was especially valued in ancient Greek and Roman times for its hard wood, from which spears and lances were made. In folk medicine, it has been used as a remedy for various ailments since the time of Hildegard of Bingen. The fruits, rich in vitamin C, can be eaten raw or processed.
