Wilhelm Raabe (1831-1910) tells a complex murder story in his 1891 published crime novel: Eduard, who has been living in Africa for a long time, has returned once again to his northern German hometown. There, his friend Heinrich, known to everyone as "Stopfkuchen," is now the owner of a farm, whose former owner is said to have murdered a cattle dealer. However, Heinrich knows the true murderer; during a celebration, he reveals his knowledge to Eduard. Disturbed, Eduard writes down his experiences on the return trip by ship.
