The seven-volume classic "Tram Archive of the GDR" was first published in the 1980s. These newly released four volumes cover the trams of the capital Berlin, the tramways of Thuringia, southern Saxony-Anhalt, and eastern Saxony. The fourth volume focuses exclusively on the work and freight tram vehicles of all tram operations in the GDR. The books discuss the entire period from the horse-drawn tram opened in 1865, through the steam tram, to the electric tram. Naturally, the vehicle fleet is also given due attention.
