Product details

This book is the first scientific analysis of street art. It provides a deep insight into the subculture and questions how street art can be positioned between graffiti, visual art, and advertising. The results of the study are based on four years of qualitative research, during which the author spoke with internationally renowned figures such as Blek Le Rat, D*Face, Invader, Jeroen Jongeleen, and Stefan Marx. The work of other artists like Banksy and Shepard Fairey (OBEY) is also presented. The theoretical foundation is provided by Pierre Bourdieu's field theory and subculture theories by Sarah Thornton and David Muggleton. For the second edition in 2012, the author reconnected with the artists and followed their developments over the past years.
