The book introduces the areas of continuum theory that are relevant for engineers: the deformation of elastic and plastic solids, the flow of frictionless and viscous fluids, as well as electrodynamics. The author develops the theory in the context of rational mechanics, meaning he establishes a system of field equations and, so to speak, provides an introduction to tensor analysis along the way. Both index calculus and absolute notation are used and compared.
