Dieter E. Zimmer has gathered around sixty texts by Vladimir Nabokov from the entire span of his Russian-American writer's life in five countries, created between 1921 and 1977: interviews, essays, lectures, reviews, obituaries, survey responses, and letters to the editor. They come from forty different sources, most of which are obscure and some nearly lost. Several are first prints from his estate. Despite the diverse occasions for these texts, their contexts, and their tones, a common thread runs through them. It is Nabokov's emphatic and unconditional love for concrete detail and his aversion to generalizations, abstract concepts, and clichés. "Stubborn Views" complements Nabokov's own collection "Clear Words" (1973) and simultaneously expands its temporal, spatial, and thematic scope.
