The discovery of Russian folk music serves as the main source of Stravinsky's innovation. The elements and principles of Russian folk music have exerted an influence on Stravinsky's artistic creation that remains largely unexplored scientifically to this day. Les Noces, the vocal counterpart to Sacre, is recognized as a synthesis of folk musical elements and modern musical language. How and to what extent this has actually been achieved will be examined based on the original song materials. These materials reveal the elements and principles of Russian folk musical tradition on one hand, and the uniqueness of the work Les Noces on the other. Through melodic-tonal, rhythmic-linguistic, and harmonic-constructive aspects, Russian folk music, particularly the traditional wedding song, will be considered to capture not only the musical mother tongue of the work but also Stravinsky's specific musical idiom, namely the nature of the themes, compositional techniques, character of rhythmic design, sonority, and construction in Les Noces, from its origins.
