The study edition (10 volumes plus an additional volume) includes about two-thirds of the Freud texts found in the standard edition. The editor of the famous English Freud edition, James Strachey, contributed to the conception of the study edition. To this day, the study edition remains the only critical German-language edition of the main part of Freud's oeuvre. The volumes are organized by themes, allowing the reader to quickly orient themselves within Freud's diverse body of work. Within the volumes, which are equipped with extensive editorial apparatus, the chronological structuring principle is applied.
