Whether Goethe, Pope, Herder, Heinrich Heine, Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, or Pushkin: they were all not only great poets of their time but also members of the Freemasons. Approximately 2.5 million Freemasons work in all parts of the world, with around 70 lodges and an average of 40 members in Austria alone. Among the members, there have always been many well-known writers who joined the Freemason fraternity for various reasons. Since the 18th century, more than 15,000 lodge songs have been published, mostly educational-moral appeals or drinking songs for the brotherly meal after temple work.
