Product details

The impressive self-testimony of a young Austro-Hungarian soldier about his experiences at the front and in captivity. These are unique documents from an Austro-Hungarian soldier during World War I: four meticulously written diaries filled with immense detail, created between the autumn of 1913 and January 1920. They reflect the hopes and disappointments, the worries and fears of a young Tyrolean from the III. Kaiserjäger Regiment, who was deployed at the hotspots of World War I: in Galicia, in the Carpathians, at the Isonzo, and on the Tyrolean front. Erich Mayr from Brixen was working as a civil servant in Innsbruck before the war. The war experience profoundly affects the sensitive soldier; the initially optimistic attitude, fueled by the confident expectation of a swift positive outcome to the war, soon gives way to a different feeling.
