Product details

In the first third of the 19th century, Vienna was constrained by two city walls: the inner wall roughly followed today's Ringstrasse, while the outer wall ran along the Linienwall in the area of what would later become Gürtelstrasse. These obstacles hindered the railway lines that ended in the capital, making it difficult for city traffic to accommodate travelers and manage their transport. Consequently, as early as 1835, initial plans emerged to extend a railway from the city center along the Wien River to Baden, with this area quickly recognized as the main traffic artery for a rapid transit system. Major railway companies sought to connect their terminal stations and planned the construction of the Vienna connection railway. Therefore, it was only logical to provide the growing city, especially after the demolition of the two city walls, with a mode of transport befitting a large city.
