The few years between 1770 and 1780 are known in literary history by the dynamic title of Sturm und Drang and are considered a period within the Enlightenment era. Matthias Luserke interprets the works of the "Storm and Stress" writers - the young Goethe, Jacob Michael Reinhold Lenz, Friedrich Maximilian Klinger, Heinrich Leopold Wagner, and the poets of the "Göttingen Hain" - in the context of poetic group formation. Furthermore, he explores the poetic and poetological themes that the poets introduced into Enlightenment literature: aesthetics of genius, the concept of folk poetry, and reflections on human nature and passions beyond the constraints of discipline.
