Product details

Roland Barthes is considered one of the classics of photography theory. In particular, his late masterpiece "The Bright Room" has shaped the debates of recent decades and articulated their fundamental questions. Less well known is that Barthes published extensively on the aesthetics and theory of photography throughout his life, from the myths of everyday life to his final lecture "The Preparation of the Novel." These scattered texts on fashion, advertising, theater, and shock photos, as well as on photographers like Richard Avedon, Lucien Clergue, and Wilhelm von Gloeden, are gathered here for the first time. They represent the "whole Barthes" through the lens of photography.
