The present book develops an autonomy-related conception of political liberalism, critically distinguishing it from the approaches of John Rawls, Ronald Dworkin, and Jürgen Habermas, which understands the establishment of social equality as a means of securing freedom. In addition to a detailed analysis of the concepts of "freedom," "equality," and a discussion of the appropriate parameters of distributive equality, it also demonstrates that an autonomy-related liberalism provides important impulses for addressing substantial questions in feminist political philosophy.
