Product details

The friendship between Walter Benjamin and Bertolt Brecht is one of the most aesthetically and politically significant of the 20th century. Hannah Arendt described this friendship as "unique" because it brought together the greatest living German poet with the most important critic of the time. Other friends did not share this view. Their suspicion has led to misinterpretations that persist to this day. The book preserves the traces of their encounters and clears away prejudices. Numerous unpublished documents allow for new evaluations. For the first time, the meeting minutes of the magazine project "Krise und Kritik" (1930/31) are analyzed, which are included in the volume as a facsimile. Through letters, diary entries, and notes, the themes of their collaboration are explored. Separate chapters are dedicated to Benjamin's works on Brecht as well as Brecht's statements.
