Product details

Religion, like any other human or non-human phenomenon, is subject to the laws of nature and can thus be scientifically studied. This is the provocative thesis of Daniel Dennett. In his investigation, he focuses primarily on the reasons and conditions for the emergence of religion, its various forms and expressions, as well as the diversity of its content. Why has human evolution produced and sustained such a costly phenomenon? Who benefits from religion? Is religiosity genetically determined, or are it rather religious "memes" that have proliferated more successfully than their competitors? Dennett aims to break the spell that often surrounds sacred phenomena and to examine whether religion can withstand scientific analysis. Only then, according to him, can it assert its legitimacy.
