With "Koryphäenkiller," Overbeck attempts to bring to life a severe narcissistic neurosis with borderline traits and multiple somatic symptoms (as per the scientific diagnosis) through a case novella. He aims to achieve this not only by condensing his clinical experiences but also by employing explicitly psychoanalytic means. This involves associations and dreams, internal monologues, external dialogues that derail, as well as actions and counteractions. The small and large "psychopathology of everyday life" unfolds, sometimes distorted in a surrealistic manner and satirically exaggerated. The medical history becomes the form in which the life story is narrated and staged. However, in the character of K. and his relationship with his analyst G., it is not just the neurotic fate of a single patient that is told.
