Product details

The twelve chapters of the novel deal with the life and death of the Spanish metalworker Buenaventura Durruti, who became a key figure in the Spanish Revolution of 1936 after a militant and adventurous youth. The book begins with a prologue titled "The Funeral for the Dead" and ends with an epilogue about "The Night World." In between, it tells the story of a proletarian hero, from his childhood in a small town in northern Spain to the "seven deaths" of Durruti, which have never been clarified. The portrayal is based on contemporary brochures, leaflets, and reports, as well as speeches, memoirs, and interviews with eyewitnesses who knew Durruti. The literary form of the novel lies between retelling and reconstruction. The contradiction between fiction and document captures the political contradictions of the Spanish Revolution.
