Product details

Weick's social psychology of organizing is not an organization theory in the conventional sense. The structural characteristics of organizations, their objectives, the division of tasks, and the order of decision-making processes—all of these are central topics of classical organizational theories—but they are of secondary interest here. Instead, the focus is on how organizations understand their environment and themselves. Weick aims to create an epistemology of organizing that can itself have an impact on the process of organizing, as it provides concepts that allow people within organizations to comprehend their actions. In this sense, Weick's theory of organizing would also be a metatheory.
