Yasushi Inoue, the master of Japanese literature born in 1907 and awarded the highest honors in his country, has long been a part of the literature of the Suhrkamp Library as a novelist. Especially "The Hunting Gun," a story of love that is, in reality, a story of loneliness, became famous worldwide. This volume brings together the three autobiographical narratives "Under the Blossoms," "The Shine of the Moon," "The Snow Cover," as well as the title story "The Mountain Azaleas on Hira Peak." There, an older scholar, who is passionately writing a book about the arterial system of the Japanese, has fled to the familiar "Inn at the Holy Mountain" at the foot of Mount Hira due to a domestic dispute and reflects on his life. As a student, he had first stayed in this inn beneath the azaleas blooming on Hira.
