Reading was always an experience for Paul Celan: His diverse readings of books, magazines, and daily newspapers served as a starting point for his poems, just as personal encounters and political events did. When a commented complete edition of Celan's poems was published for the first time in 2003, the exploration of such sources was still in its early stages. Editions of the most significant correspondence are now available, the critical editions of his works have been completed, and the research into Celan's estate library, with its reading traces, underlinings, and notes, has made significant progress. On this basis, nearly 60 poems, including first prints, have been added to the 2003 edition, and all texts have undergone careful scrutiny. The commentary has also been newly designed and significantly expanded, particularly through intensive research by the editor in the field.
