Die Radiofamilie
German, Ingeborg Bachmann, 2012Product details
In the autumn of 1951, a chain-smoking mermaid with angelic hair, who whispered more than she spoke, entered the radio drama department of the American occupation broadcaster Rot-Weiss-Rot in Vienna. Ingeborg Bachmann, as the young woman was named, would shape the station's entertainment program for the next two years and make the Floriani radio family the most famous and beloved show of the post-war era. They are bourgeois and quirky, the Florianis: There is Hans, the head of the family, a senior judge, honorable to the core. He is wrapped around the finger by his cheeky children: "I am a comical figure in my family," he complains to his wife Vilma, a general's daughter from World War I, "so a bit something higher," and in this matter, she is not inclined to contradict her husband. She is much stricter.
