In his groundbreaking book "Mind and World," John McDowell famously developed the idea that the concept of a rational subject of knowledge cannot be understood independently of the idea of a subject of experiences. It is through experiences that we see how things behave in the world. In "The World Viewed," McDowell deepens this thought with regard to central questions of contemporary epistemology and philosophy of mind, engaging with authors of German Idealism, foremost Kant and Hegel, and connecting them in a congenial manner with the analytical tradition, particularly Sellars and Davidson.
