The concept of aesthetic experience represents a reflection on art that decisively departs from a traditional theory of the artwork as a site of truth revelation. The concept of "aesthetic experience" attempts to capture a development in the arts that has often been described as "de-bounding": a de-bounding of the artwork itself, which seeks to reflect on its contexts, conditions, and consequences, as well as a de-bounding of the aesthetic, which frees itself from its exclusive ties to the sphere of art and is perceived in a variety of equally valid forms. The volume brings together texts from various disciplines: film studies, art studies, literary studies, philosophy, and psychology.
