Peter Ash is done with the world: Since his return from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he suffers from panic attacks whenever he enters a room. The "white noise," as he calls it, forces him to stay in the wilderness and sleep outdoors in all weather conditions. However, when a friend from the Army commits suicide, Ash senses that there is more to the story and ventures back among people. He helps the man's widow renovate her dilapidated house. Under the battered porch, he discovers more than just rotten wood: a large and ugly dog guards an explosive find - a suitcase full of money and explosives. But the suitcase is just a piece of a mad plot to carry out an attack that is set to cost thousands of lives. Ash doesn't have much time to track down the perpetrators.
