What relevance does philosophy have for life? With its demand that every conceptual distinction should relate to a difference in human perception and action, pragmatism has taken this question more seriously than perhaps any other philosophical movement. As a critical philosophy, pragmatism must also be able to distance itself from the terminologies of the sciences and from everyday beliefs. But in what language can a critique of scientistic and everyday thinking be formulated? This is only possible in a foreign language. Neopragmatists have overlooked speculative aspects of foreign philosophical ways of speaking and thereby neglected the critical potential of this thinking.
