Erste Gesamtausgabe in 40 Bänden von 1953 ff
German, Brecht, 1964Product details
The complete edition of Brecht's poems was intended to be concluded with this seventh volume. However, the necessity for an eighth supplementary volume arose, which provides an estate related to the preceding volumes, includes translations, fragments, and variants, as well as some newly discovered poems. Chronologically, the seventh volume concludes Brecht's lyrical oeuvre. It contains the poems written after his return from America (autumn 1947) until his death (August 1956). At the center of the volume are the famous "Bukowian Elegies" written in 1953. Following them are poems addressing the times, such as "How can the great order be established without the wisdom of the people," "Justice is the bread of the people," and finally Brecht's last lyrical expressions: "If we were infinite," "Thus everything changed," "Since we are finite," "Much remains the same.".
