Product details

Since technological development has increasingly become intertwined with human life, the moral treatment of oneself and the societal approach to body and life have become questionable. Genetic engineering, reproductive and transplant medicine, cosmetic surgery, and neuro-enhancement demand a new and explicit dialogue about how we want to live our nature. More specifically, they call for an ethics of bodily existence. Without such an ethics, there is a lack of foundation for the decisions of individuals as informed patients, as well as for the necessary societal regulation of new medical techniques. Through numerous examples, Gernot Böhme demonstrates how such an ethics must be formulated to meet these challenges on both individual and societal levels.
