Walter Benjamin's influence on philosophy and sociology, as well as on media and cultural studies, is hard to overestimate. However, it wasn't until 1955 that Benjamin's work and persona became accessible to a broader public. The selection of writings published at that time by Theodor W. and Gretel Adorno together with Friedrich Podszus at Suhrkamp Verlag allowed for the first reception of some of his main texts. The extensive edition of the collected works, which has been published since the early 1970s, then presented Benjamin's complete works with the level of completeness available at that time.
