This volume includes the earliest publications of Georg Simmel: the monographically published dissertation (1881) and the two extensive essays from the Journal of Folk Psychology and Linguistics from 1882 and 1884. Additionally, it contains (almost) all of his reviews (1883-1901), the vast majority of which can also be classified as early writings. The decision to compile the early writings along with the reviews up to the year 1901 was motivated not only by their chronological association with the "young Simmel," but also by the fact that this genre of text required its own editorial and bibliographic efforts. Regarding the text formatting, original spelling and punctuation are preserved.
