The Cronopians, Famen, and the hopes omitted from the title, which first emerged from Cortázar's "Leyer" in 1962, are now part of the vocabulary of Spanish speakers. Cronopians, small "green and damp" subjects, are indeed undefinable, but they are endowed with the most beautiful humanity and worldliness, childishly unpredictable and ancient in their experience. These fables and parables are the fourth and final part of a "textbook on the art of poeticizing the everyday world" (Wolfgang Promies), providing lessons in unusual or previously taken-for-granted activities, which will never again be seen as such.
