In the Anglo-Saxon world, a research direction has emerged that has productively adopted and further developed Foucault's analysis of power: Governmentality Studies. The present volume builds on this research and utilizes the toolkit developed by Foucault for an analysis of current societal upheavals. The common reference point of the exemplary studies is the engagement with neoliberal governmentality. Preceding the contributions is the first German translation of Foucault's lecture from 1978, in which he outlines the concept of governmentality in its historical and analytical distinction from sovereignty and disciplinary mechanisms.
