Product details

It melts, it wobbles, something has long since gone out of balance in our world. The ice is dwindling, leaving behind mud and craters. Mammoths are being uncovered, and hunters are quickly drawn to them – finally, they can sell ivory without killing. In bright days, where events run parallel and the characters effortlessly transcend time and space, a 13,000-year-old tattered wolfdog appears in a dried-up Brandenburg lake. There sits teenager Jo, sweating and never sleeping again, so that the world does not dissolve further before their eyes. But the thawing climate has not only set the ground in motion but also the mountains; the Matterhorn is now missing its horn. Wolfdog and Jo embark on a wild road trip together, buying gravel at the hardware store and stealing a car to fill the hole in the mountain. However, the tattered dog continuously loses substance, even though he desperately wants to complete the mission. The decomposition has long since begun. Selma Matter tells a multifaceted story with subtle humor, depicting a dystopian narrative about an alarming new mobility and deformation of our world. Matter invents a virtuosic and vivid language that increasingly dissolves with her characters and ultimately asks: what remains? “You can’t just stand there frozen! – But I am… Halfway… My body is always at ambient temperature… Below zero, I freeze, then there’s nothing left to be done with me…”.
