The theoretical considerations on religion that Peter Sloterdijk presented in "God's Zeal" (2007) and "You Must Change Your Life" (2009) received significant attention, but also sparked misunderstandings and critical objections. In this volume, Sloterdijk now clarifies his discussions on monotheism and violence, as well as the role of religion in pre-modern societies, starting from the Sinai episode in the Book of Exodus. He addresses the ethnoplastic function of religioid unitary semantics and explains why we react nervously to any form of fundamentalism in light of this historical legacy—whether it involves radical Islamists, the Catholic Society of St. Pius X, or evangelical sects in the USA.
