Product details

Since 1980, the volumes of the series "Small Political Writings" have gathered analyses, statements, and diagnoses of the times by Jürgen Habermas. Titles like "The New Unclarity" have long since entered common parlance. In the titular essay of this volume, Habermas builds on his widely noted interventions in European politics from recent years. In light of the danger that technocratic elites might seize power and trim democracy to fit market conformity, he advocates for cross-border solidarity. In addition to Habermas' highly relevant Heine Prize speech, the volume includes portraits of thinkers such as Martin Buber, Jan Philipp Reemtsma, and Ralf Dahrendorf, as well as an essay in which the philosopher addresses the formative role of Jewish returnees after World War II. With Volume XII, the author concludes a book series that is kaleidoscopic.
